Since September, 28 children have been learning the violin after school. After only 10 weeks, the children have already many songs in their repertoire. Below is their first group performance, a lovely festive rendition of ‘Jingle Bells’.
Well done to the 26 children who performed at Moate Community School’s Summer Proms Concert. The children who have been learning the violin with Mrs. Forde, performed two pieces at the concert, Ed Sheeran’s ‘Perfect’ and Pachelbel’s ‘Canon in D Major’. The children performed with the impressive Moate Community School Orchestra for both pieces, an amazing experience for all. They also collaborated with St.Brigid’s N.S for ‘Canon in D’.
Everyone in attendance were in agreement that they gave an unforgettable performance. Well done to all these talented violinists, we are extremely proud of you!

The violin group took part in the Féile Ceoil na Scoileanna on Tuesday 17th. They performed ‘Canon in D’, ‘Perfect’ and ‘Now the Day is Over’. They all played beautifully and the audience thoroughly enjoyed their performance. Watch their performance below.
In September, 14 more children began learning the violin. These children along with the those who have been learning previously, joined forces to play some Christmas tunes. Their classmates performed with them on tin whistle and recorder.
Oscar winning songwriter Glen Hansard, got wind of the Violin Group’s performance of his song ‘Falling Slowly’ at the MCS Summer Proms. He commended the children on their performance, and shared it on Twitter with his 100 thousand followers. Well done to everyone involved!
Well done to the Violinists who took part in the Féile Ceoil na Scoileanna. It is about 30 years since the school took part, in what was once an annual tradition.
The Violin Group impressed all in the audience with their rendition of ‘Pachebel’s Canon’, ‘Now the Day is Over’, and ‘Falling Slowly’.

Violin Lessons were given by Natalia this year. Children performed the below piece at the Summer Proms.
The main highlights this year, were children taking part and achieving great results of Distinctions and Honours in RIAM Preliminary exams and playing in the MCS Summer Proms. All the children showed huge commitment by taking part in weekly lunchtime lessons and practising in their own time. Well done!

Minister Cannon and guests were serenaded in the reception of the new building by the senior members of the violin group, Kasey, Molly, Lauren, Ali, Jasmine, Aoibhinn, Zara, and Caoimhe, accompanied by Holly on the keyboard. He was astonished with their playing, and complimented them many times throughout the day, saying it was one of the most impressive musical receptions he had ever received.
The day finally came on Thursday 9th May, for the Baylin Violinists to perform with Moate Community School Orchestra at their summer concert. The children performed ‘Now the Day is Over’ and ‘Viva La Vida’ with the Moate Community School Choir and Orchestra.
After their perfect performance of ‘Now the Day is Over’, there wasn’t a dry eye in the audience between their proud mammys, daddys, and grandparents! The children took part in ‘Viva la Vida’, both playing and singing, following the conductor as if they had been doing it professionally for years! They were so unbelievable, they even received a standing ovation!
We cannot thank the Moate Community School Music Department enough for allowing us to join them on the night, and being so welcoming.
The Violin Group are delighted to have been invited by Moate Community School Orchestra and Choir, to perform with them in their end of year concert in May. In preparation for this, the children who have been learning the violin at lunchtime since November, travelled to Moate to rehearse.
They performed the lullaby ‘Now the Day is Over’, accompanied by the orchestra. This was a great experience for the children, and all in attendance at the rehearsal could not believe how fantastic they sounded.
The children, from classes 2nd – 6th, have made amazing progress on the violin in the last few months. We cannot wait for their big performance in May, where they will also take part in accompanying the Moate Community School Choir alongside their orchestra. We give a huge thank you to Moate Community School, for giving this opportunity to the children, as well as for their hospitality on the day.
